NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
TOWN OF MAGGIE VALLEY, NORTH CAROLINA
SUBJECT: Proposed Amendment to the Town Charter Regarding Governing Body Titles (Changing “Aldermen” to “Town Council”)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Aldermen of the Town of Maggie Valley will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 6:00 PM.
The public hearing will be held in the Town Hall Board Room at 3987 Soco Road Maggie Valley NC 28751.
PURPOSE OF THE HEARING:
The purpose of this public hearing is to receive public comment, both oral and written, for or against a proposed ordinance to amend the Town Charter / Municipal Code, Section 3.1 /Chapter 3.
The proposed amendment will update the town’s legislative body, transitioning the official title of the governing members from “Board of Aldermen” (and individual members from “Alderman”) to “Town Council” (and individual members to “Council Member”. This proposed change is administrative and organizational in nature and will not alter the duties, term lengths, powers, or districts of the elected officials.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION:
All interested citizens, residents, and property owners of the Town of Maggie Valley are invited to attend the hearing and present their views.
- In-Person Comments: Individuals wishing to speak must sign up on the speaker sheet located at the entrance of the meeting room prior to the start of the hearing. Speakers will be limited to three minutes each.
- Written Comments: Written statements may be submitted in advance to the Town Clerk via email at kjohnson@maggievalleync.gov or by mail/hand-delivery to 3987 Soco Road Maggie Valley NC 28751. To be included in the official record for the meeting, written comments must be received by October 12th.
DOCUMENT INSPECTION:
A copy of the full text of the proposed ordinance/charter amendment is available for public inspection during normal business hours 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday at the office of the Town Clerk, located at 3987 Soco Road Maggie Valley NC 28751 or online at the Town’s official website: www.maggievalleync.gov.

Rebecca was born and raised in Highlands, NC, where she spent 15 years serving the Town in various roles — starting as secretary to the Town Manager, then serving as Town Clerk for 5 years, and most recently as Finance Director for 10 years.
She brings a wealth of local government experience and a strong record of dedicated public service to our team.
Rebecca is married with 3 children and 3 grandchildren.

Maggie Valley Welcomes Lead for North Carolina Fellow as Statewide Program Launches Its Eighth Cohort
This July, the eighth cohort of Lead for North Carolina Fellows arrived at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to begin their journey into public sector careers. After completing an intensive summer training program, Cohort Eight Fellows will begin a year of paid, full-time service in city halls, county offices, and community organizations across the state in August.
Lead for North Carolina (Lead for NC) is a program of the UNC School of Government — the largest university-based local government training, advisory, and research organization in the United States. The program recruits, trains, and places promising recent college graduates in paid local government fellowships to strengthen public institutions, support local communities, and cultivate a new generation of public service leaders.
Congratulations to Trades Specialist Will Rhinehart. He is the 2nd Quarter recipient of the Employee Recognition Program. Will has been awarded this certificate for his exemplary performance and unwavering dedication. He took the initiative in keeping projects organized, keeping his supervisor up to date and informed on project progress and upcoming priorities. This ensured work continued moving forward efficiently. His strong communication, leadership and dedication to the team made a significant positive impact
